The Wise Crow

The Wise Crow

Once upon a time, there lived a crow named Bobo in a small village called Uldbred. It was a very cold day, and so Bobo rested comfortably in a tree near the village.

In the distance, in another tree, sat a very old crow named Villemo. The cold made Villemo shiver, and she didn’t have the strength to fly far in the bitter cold. Below Villemo’s tree were four men, keeping warm under their woolen blankets, sitting around a nice warm fire. They were chatting and enjoying bread and tea.

Villemo was very tempted by the warmth of the fire, and she sneaked closer to try to get warm. But the men thought she was trying to steal their bread and said, “Shoo… shoo,” to scare her away.

Villemo tried to plead with the men. “I just want the warmth of the fire. I don’t want to eat your bread. I beg you…” But the men refused to let her near their lovely warm fire.

Bobo had seen this from his tree and felt very sorry for Villemo. He decided that he would help her. Bobo thought about making his own fire for Villemo, but he wasn’t sure how to do it. He decided he needed help from his friends.

Bobo called out loudly, and soon all his friends gathered around him. Bobo shared his idea with the other crows and asked them to think carefully about how they could make a fire. Suddenly, a little crow came up with a good idea. She asked each of the crows to fetch some twigs and a bit of hay. Soon, they had gathered plenty of dried twigs and hay.

But they needed a spark to ignite the twigs. Bobo and the little crow collected a couple of stones to strike them together and start the fire. They sat on the pile of twigs and kept striking the stones. Soon, flames ignited the pile of hay and twigs. Hooray! Now they could all be warm! The crows were happy. Villemo was very happy and flew over to the fire, and she thanked Bobo and his friends.

Thus, the spark of ideas and teamwork kept the crows warm and happy.
