In a small village on the edge of a large, dark forest lived a witch named Evelyn. But Evelyn wasn’t like the other witches. She didn’t enjoy playing tricks or scaring people, as one might think. No, Evelyn was a kind witch who used her magical powers to help the people of the village.
Every year for Halloween, Evelyn brewed a special potion for the children in the village. This potion made Halloween night extra fun. It made the jack-o’-lanterns flicker, filled candy bags a little faster, and even made the little bats dance across the night sky.
But this year, something was wrong.
When Evelyn went down to her big, old witch’s kitchen to start making this year’s potion, she discovered that some of her most important ingredients were missing. Her magical berries, which made the potion work, were gone! Without them, the potion wouldn’t be magical, and the Halloween party would be completely ordinary.
Evelyn grew worried. She had to find the rare berries, or the children would be disappointed. Along with two brave children from the village, Emily and Victor, Evelyn set off on a journey into the forest to find the missing ingredients.
The forest was vast and dark, but Emily and Victor weren’t afraid, because they knew Evelyn was by their side. They walked past the tall, ancient trees where owls hooted faithfully, and tiny flickers of light from fairies appeared along the path. Along the way, they met a chatty owl, who told them that the magical berries grew deep in the forest, where it was always Halloween night.
On their journey, they also met a friendly ghost named Sam, who loved to dance and showed them the way to a hidden pumpkin patch. There, among the glowing pumpkins, they found the magical berries, which shimmered like stars. The pumpkins sang joyful songs, and Emily and Victor danced around with Sam while Evelyn carefully picked the berries.
But there was one more ingredient they needed—something that couldn’t be picked or found in the forest. Evelyn looked at the children and smiled. She knew that the final ingredient was something very special: friendship.
With the berries in hand and the children’s friendship in her heart, they all returned to Evelyn’s witch’s kitchen. There, they brewed the most magical potion anyone had ever tasted. When the children in the village drank it, something extraordinary happened: Their costumes became even funnier, their laughter got louder, and everyone had the best Halloween ever.
Evelyn, Emily, and Victor stood by and watched as the village celebrated under the flickering jack-o’-lanterns. They knew they had saved the party together—and that friendship truly was the most magical ingredient of all.
