The Lantern of Love

by

In a quiet village surrounded by dense forests, there was a tradition of releasing lanterns into the sky on the first full moon of winter. Each lantern carried a wish, a hope, or a secret. Amidst the glowing lights, a young woman named Lila always released her lantern with a single wish: to find someone who saw the world the way she did.

One crisp winter evening, as the lanterns floated into the night, a stranger approached Lila. He was tall, with a scarf wrapped loosely around his neck, and his eyes reflected the flickering lanterns above.

“You didn’t release one this year,” he said, nodding toward the lantern in her hands.

Lila smiled faintly. “I’m not sure if wishes work anymore.”

The man tilted his head. “Maybe you’ve just been wishing for the wrong thing.”

Intrigued, Lila handed him her lantern. “Then you choose the wish.”

He hesitated for a moment, then wrote a single word: “Connection.” He released the lantern, and it floated upward, joining hundreds of others, each carrying a silent dream into the stars.

As the weeks passed, the man, whose name was Adrian, stayed in the village. He and Lila spent their days walking the snowy paths, talking about their dreams, fears, and the beauty in the ordinary. Adrian was an artist, and every evening he sketched Lila by the fire, capturing her laughter and the way her eyes sparkled when she spoke of the world.

One night, as another full moon lit the village, Adrian surprised Lila with a lantern he had crafted himself. It was painted with tiny stars and swirling constellations, a miniature version of the sky.

“This is for you,” he said, his voice soft. “A reminder that wishes do come true if you open your heart to them.”

Lila lit the lantern, her heart full of warmth. “I think my wish came true the moment you walked into my life.”

As they released the lantern together, it floated higher than any other, its golden light a symbol of the love they had found. Beneath the glowing sky, Adrian took Lila’s hand and whispered, “You’ve been my wish all along.”

The End.
