The Story of The Little Mermaid
This is the story of The Little Mermaid for children. Long ago, a king lived in the coral palace at the bottom of the sea. He had six mermaid daughters. While five of them were happy, his youngest princess did not even smile.
The little mermaid loved the world above the water. She often swam up to see the blue sky and the green trees in the distant land. She felt that without the beauties of the world on land, she would be unhappy. Beautiful fish, shells in various sizes and shapes from the wonderful sea, could not satisfy her. Not even stories told by her father would make her smile.
One night, the Little Mermaid left her home and secretly swam to the surface. On that stormy night, waves crashed wildly against the rocks. Lightning cast its light on a ship that was rolling and tossing at sea. Besides the ship, a young man was signaling for help. The Little Mermaid rescued him immediately. She brought him to the shore and gently laid him on a rock. She fell in love with this young man. When she saw a beautiful young girl approaching, she hurried back to the sea palace.
The first thing the young man saw when he opened his eyes was the most beautiful girl with the most beautiful hair. He was very grateful to her and believed that she had saved him. The beautiful girl was the princess.
The Little Mermaid always thought of the young man. One day, she visited the sea witch Ursula and asked her to grant a wish. She wanted to be able to walk and dance on land. The witch listened to the Little Mermaid and mixed her special potion. The witch agreed to grant her wish on one condition. She would be able to walk and dance but not talk or sing. She would lose the power of her speech. The Little Mermaid agreed and was quickly transformed.
The Little Mermaid reached the royal palace, hoping the prince would remember her. A grand party was being held at the palace. Since the palace guards did not recognize the girl, they did not let her in. As she listened to the music from the palace, she began to dance joyfully. Seeing her beautiful dance, the guards allowed her to enter the palace after all.
Lamps illuminated the garden, where the air was filled with music and laughter. The Little Mermaid finally found the prince, who was sitting on his throne. Beside him sat the beautiful princess with the most beautiful hair. When the prince saw her, he did not know that she was the one who had saved his life.
The king announced that the princess was the prince’s future bride. When the Little Mermaid heard this, she began to cry and quickly ran out of the palace and back to the sea. It is believed that the sorrowful little mermaid still visits the place where she first saw the beautiful prince.
