Once upon a time, there was a parrot living in a forest. His beak and wings were incredibly beautiful, making him the most beautiful parrot in the forest. His younger brother also lived with him, and both of them lived happily in the forest.
One day, a hunter came into the forest and saw the two parrots. He thought to himself:
“These two parrots are very beautiful and unique. I will capture them and present them to the king.”
He wanted to catch them in his net, so he spread a net for them to fly into. Sure enough, after a short time, both parrots were caught in the net.
He locked them in a cage and traveled to the king.
“O king, see these beautiful parrots. I caught them deep in the forest. When I saw their beauty, I decided to bring them to you. They will add further beauty to your palace,” said the hunter.
The king was very pleased and gave the hunter 1000 coins. He kept both parrots in a golden cage and ordered his servants to take good care of them.
The parrots were well taken care of and treated as very important birds in the palace. They were served fruit and delicious food every single day. They actually became a kind of attraction. Even the young prince came to play with them several times a week. The parrots were very happy and got everything they wished for without having to work for it.
The elder parrot once said to his brother,
“We are very respected in the palace and therefore quite satisfied.”
The younger brother replied,
“You are right, we receive royal treatment. It is our good fortune.”
One day, a hunter brought a black monkey named Kala Bahu. The monkey was presented to the king, who asked his attendants to keep the monkey in the courtyard. The king as well as the prince were very pleased to see the monkey and his funny activities. Soon, the monkey became the biggest attraction in the palace.
With the arrival of the monkey, the parrots were neglected. Sometimes they even forgot to give them food. Both parrots knew the reason for this.
The elder parrot was wise and hoped that the days would soon change again so they would no longer be depressed. He comforted his brother:
“Nothing is forever in this world. Be patient, my brother, until the bad days are over.”
One day, the prince was frightened by the monkey, and he screamed as loudly as he could: “Help! Help!”
The monkey had gotten angry, destroyed his room, and scared him completely. The prince ordered his men to leave the monkey in the forest. And the next day, the monkey was sent out into the forest.
The bad days for the parrots were now over. They were treated well again and served the good dishes and fruits. They once again became the main attraction in the palace.
