Jack loved everything about space. He read every space book he could find. He even dreamed about space at night. When his school went on a field trip to the space center, he was so excited that he didn’t notice the rest of his class walking ahead. When he finally looked around, he was completely alone. Where had they gone?
Jack kept walking and found an open door with a small window in the middle. As he stepped inside, the door slammed shut behind him, and a voice shouted, “LAUNCH!”
“Oh no!” cried Jack. There was a loud roar, and the ground shook. Then he shot up into the sky at incredible speed. Jack was inside a rocket—heading straight for outer space!
Jack floated upside down, staring out the small window. He could see the Moon, the green and blue Earth, and countless stars. He even spotted a spaceship filled with aliens! Purple aliens with three eyes and five arms waved at him. Then he floated into the control room, where an astronaut was sitting.
“Excuse me,” Jack began. “I got lost and…” But the astronaut was so shocked that he fainted! Jack took a deep breath and sat down at the control panel. He tried to remember everything he’d read about rockets. Then he pressed a big “Home” button and crossed his fingers.
WHOOSH! The rocket turned around and sped back toward Earth. It split into three parts, and a parachute button started blinking. Jack pressed it. Moments later, he floated safely down to the space center. His class and teacher were waiting for him. When the hatch opened, everyone cheered!
“This is the best school trip EVER!” said Jack.
