A long time ago in a small village, there lived a little girl with her mother on the edge of the forest. Everyone called the girl Little Red Riding Hood because of her shiny red cloak with a hood, which her grandmother had made for her.

“Please deliver this basket of bread and treats to your grandmother, because she is sick in bed,” said her mother.

“Go through the forest, but don’t talk to any strangers along the way.”

Little Red Riding Hood skipped happily down the forest path, enjoying the sunshine, the blue sky, and the birds singing in the treetops, when she met the big bad wolf.

“Where are you going?” asked the wolf.

“I’m going to deliver this basket to my grandmother,” replied Little Red Riding Hood.

“Why don’t you pick some flowers for your grandmother? That would make her happy,” suggested the wolf.

“That’s a good idea!” said Little Red Riding Hood and thanked the wolf.

While she stopped to pick flowers, the wolf ran through the forest and to the grandmother’s cottage, very, very hungry.

When the wolf arrived at the cottage, he frightened the grandmother and locked her in a dark room. Then he put on her nightcap and glasses, lay down in her bed, pulled the blanket up over himself, and waited for Little Red Riding Hood to arrive.

Little Red Riding Hood came and knocked on her grandmother’s door. “It’s me, Grandma!” said Little Red Riding Hood.

“Come in, dear,” replied the wolf in a raspy voice. “I’m in the bedroom.”

“Hello Grandma!” said Little Red Riding Hood cheerfully. Then she stared. “What big eyes you have,” she said.

“They’re to better see you with,” creaked the wolf.

“Well, what big ears you have,” said Little Red Riding Hood.

“They’re to better hear you with,” creaked the wolf.

“And what big teeth you have!” she said.

“They’re to better eat you with!” roared the wolf and jumped at the little girl. Little Red Riding Hood spun around and ran out of the cottage, shouting, “Help! Help!” A woodcutter passed by and heard her scream, and he found Little Red Riding Hood, who told him about the big bad wolf.

When the woodcutter came into the cottage with his axe, the wolf got so scared that he ran away, and he was never seen again.

After Little Red Riding Hood unlocked her grandmother, she told her everything. Her grandmother kissed her and wisely said, “Remember, Little Red Riding Hood, you must never talk to strangers.”
