Emily sat one spring morning outside the front door. It had just become the weekend, and she had no one to play with. It was boring when no one could play together, so she usually ended up walking the dog, Charlie. Charlie was a big golden retriever who loved rain and mud – and luckily, there was plenty of that right now.
Emily jumped into her pink rubber boots and ran out the door together with Charlie.
They usually passed by the playground, but when they got there, it looked rather sad. There was water everywhere, and they would get completely soaked if they went through it. Emily sighed and started to turn around, but Charlie had other plans. He decided to take a run-up and dashed away.
Emily landed on her bottom and was dragged through water and mud while she shouted after Charlie.
“Charlie! Bad dog! I said stop!” shouted Emily. Charlie suddenly stopped.
“Oh, you silly dog, now I have mud all over me… What were you thinking…” Emily didn’t get to finish before she looked up and saw Charlie standing there wagging his tail. He had something in his mouth, but it was covered in mud. “Give it, Charlie…” said Emily.
Emily took the strange thing out of Charlie’s mouth, shook it in the puddle, and out came the most beautiful green umbrella she had ever seen.
Emily’s eyes lit up, and at once, the sun began to shine on her. She closed her eyes for a moment and enjoyed the warm rays.
It was only for a short while, as the sun disappeared behind the clouds and lots of rain poured down again. Emily opened the umbrella and chose to take a detour home – now she had the prettiest umbrella in town.
