It was a very special day for Benjamin. He had gotten a new puppy, and he was really happy.
“I will teach you everything I know,” said Benjamin. “But first, I have to find the perfect name for you.”
“You can call me whatever you want, as long as you give me lots of cuddles,” thought the puppy.
Benjamin looked around his room for an idea for the perfect dog name.
“I’ll check my adventure book,” he said, but none of the names really fit.
“I think I’ll let you find your own name,” thought the puppy. “I’d much rather see what’s hiding behind that potted plant over there.”
The little puppy sneaked over to the plant. It sniffed…and then it climbed. It didn’t mean to knock over the pot, but…oops! That was exactly what happened. The puppy left muddy paw prints everywhere.
“Let’s go to the park. I’m sure I can come up with a good name for you there,” said Benjamin.
“I’d rather see what’s hiding behind that tree,” thought the little puppy. And off it ran…
It didn’t mean to jump into the mud, but…splash! That was exactly what it did. And once again, it left muddy paw prints everywhere.
Benjamin’s neighbors were having a party in their backyard.
“Maybe one of the guests has a good name for you,” said Benjamin. “Let’s ask them.”
“I’d rather look into the pond,” thought the puppy. And it leaned over the edge… It didn’t mean to fall into the water, but…splash! That was exactly what happened.
And once again, muddy paw prints appeared everywhere.
“I think we should go home and dry you off,” said Benjamin.
“I’d rather dig in the garden,” thought the puppy.
And so it dug…and dug…and dug. It found all sorts of things in the ground…a ring…an old wrench…and a toy car Benjamin had lost. The puppy didn’t mean to bring all the mud into the house, but…tip tap! That was exactly what it did. Muddy paw prints were everywhere.
And it wasn’t the puppy’s intention to come up with its own name either, but that was exactly what it did.
“You are the sweetest, funniest, and muddiest puppy in the whole world,” laughed Benjamin.
“And your name shall be Mudpaw!”
