The Little Ghost Fluff

On a quiet autumn evening in a small village, the street lamps shimmered through the mist and the chestnut trees rustled softly in the wind. Something special seemed to awaken.
It was the last day of October – Halloween – and the scent of pumpkins and candlelight drifted through the air. Children ran laughing from house to house, dressed as witches, knights, and tiny monsters.

In the middle of all that life lived Lily.

Lily was seven years old, curious and full of imagination. She loved Halloween – not just for the candy, but because the whole world felt a little magical that night. This year she was dressed as a brave knight, wearing a shiny silver cape and carrying a small wooden sword she had painted herself.

But as she stood in the hallway putting on her boots, she noticed something terrible.

Her teddy bear was gone.

Teddy always sat on her bed – always ready, always smiling.
A lump formed in Lily’s throat. Teddy had been with her since she was a baby, and she couldn’t imagine going out into the dark without him.

She searched under the bed, inside the closet, and behind the curtains.

Nothing.

Tears began to sting her eyes.

Then she heard a tiny, careful cough from the attic above.

“Is… is someone there?” Lily whispered.

A small giggle echoed in the darkness.

“It’s just me. My name is Fluff.”

Lily stared up at the attic hatch. “Fluff? Who are you?”

“A ghost,” the voice said cheerfully. “But not a scary one. I help children who lose something important – especially on Halloween.”

A white, fluffy shape slowly drifted down from the attic.
Fluff looked like a tiny cloud made of dust and light, with two round eyes that sparkled like stars.

“You’ve lost something, haven’t you?” he asked kindly.

Lily nodded. “My teddy. I can’t find him anywhere.”

“Then we must go on a little hunt,” said Fluff. “Halloween night hides many secrets.”

They stepped outside into the evening. The wind danced around them, and the street lamps cast long shadows across the cobblestones. Children in costumes shouted “Trick or treat!” while the smell of baked apples filled the streets.

“First,” said Fluff, “let’s think. Where did you last have Teddy?”

Lily frowned. “I was playing in the chestnut grove after school. Maybe I forgot him there.”

“Then we’ll walk through the fog and listen to the trees whisper,” Fluff said, floating ahead like a tiny lantern.

They passed glowing pumpkins, the old village well, and rows of quiet houses. Leaves swirled around them like dancing shadows.

“Teddy?” Lily called softly.

Only the wind answered.

“We must go farther,” said Fluff. “Maybe he followed the sound of laughter.”

They walked toward the little pond. The fog lay thick on the water, and the moon shimmered on its surface. Two ducks glided past, and something sparkled near the shore.

Lily ran over.

But it was only an old glove.

She sighed. “We’ll never find him.”

Fluff gently placed his small cloud-like hand on her shoulder.
“Yes, you will. You just have to believe. Halloween night helps those who search with their hearts.”

He closed his eyes and began to hum a soft melody.

Suddenly, a light flickered in the distance – near the old playground.

They hurried over, and beneath the swing, covered in leaves, lay Teddy.

His button eyes stared patiently up at her.

“Teddy!” Lily cried, dropping to her knees. She hugged him tightly. “I missed you so much!”

Fluff spun happily in the air. “There we go! Mystery solved.”

On the way home, they danced through the fog. The children were heading to bed, and the street lamps glowed warmly. When they reached Lily’s house, Fluff stopped by the door.

“Now that you’ve found what you lost, I must return to the attic. I watch over all the children in the village. But you can always call me if you need me.”

Lily smiled. “Thank you, Fluff. I’ll never forget you.”

“That’s alright if you forget me just a tiny bit,” Fluff laughed. “I’m made of dust. I love being stirred up again.”

Slowly, he faded away like tiny sparks of light in the dark.

Lily went inside, climbed into bed, and held Teddy close. Outside, the wind danced softly, and somewhere up in the attic she heard a small, friendly giggle.

She fell asleep smiling, knowing that Halloween wasn’t only about spooky things – but also about friendship, courage, and a little bit of magic.
