A Midnight Promise

A Midnight Promise

The city stretched out before them, a sea of twinkling lights reflecting off the river below. From the rooftop, the world felt quiet—just the two of them beneath the vast, endless sky.

Sienna pulled her coat tighter around her shoulders, the crisp night air sending a shiver down her spine. She wasn’t sure if it was the cold or the way Ethan was looking at her—like she was the only thing in the world that mattered.

“This is where I first realized I loved you,” Ethan murmured, his voice carrying over the hush of the midnight breeze.

She turned to him, her heart skipping a beat. “You never told me that.”

His lips curved into a small, almost nervous smile. “I was afraid if I said it out loud, I’d never be able to take it back.”

Sienna swallowed hard, her fingers tightening around the railing. “And now?”

Ethan took a step closer, his warmth melting the chill between them. “Now, I don’t want to take it back.”

Her breath hitched. She had loved him for so long, in quiet moments and stolen glances, in laughter that came too easily and in silences that said more than words ever could.

And yet, neither of them had ever been brave enough to say it.

Until now.

Ethan reached into his pocket, pulling out something small and delicate—a silver locket, glinting under the city lights. He opened it, revealing a tiny, handwritten note folded inside.

Sienna’s fingers trembled as she took it, unfolding the paper.

“For every day I didn’t say it—

For every time I wanted to but held back—

For every moment that proved it was always you…

I love you, Sienna.”

Tears pricked her eyes. She had spent so long wondering if he felt it too, if she was alone in the quiet longing that had lived in her heart for years.

And now, there it was. Written. Real.

Ethan stepped even closer, his forehead resting gently against hers. “Say something,” he whispered.

Sienna let out a shaky laugh, blinking through the tears. “You idiot. You didn’t have to write it down.”

Ethan chuckled, his hands cupping her face. “I wanted to. I wanted you to have proof.”

Sienna’s heart swelled, warmth flooding her chest. She looked at him—the boy who had always been her safe place, her best friend, her almost-love.

And finally, she gave him what they had both been waiting for.

“I love you too, Ethan.”

His breath caught, just for a second. And then, his lips met hers.

It wasn’t rushed. It wasn’t desperate. It was everything—years of unspoken words, of waiting, of knowing deep down that this was where they were always meant to be.

As the city glowed beneath them and the stars watched from above, Sienna knew—

This wasn’t just love.

This was forever.
