Far, far away from everything and everyone lived a little elf named Bo. Bo was a hunting elf, and he often went out into the snowy wilderness with the other hunters from his village. But Bo was different from the rest – he was much bigger than any other elf in the entire settlement.
One morning, Bo set out on a hunt with five of his hunting friends. They quietly stepped out into the snow and made their way toward the forest where they planned to track game. Bo and his friends searched for hours without any luck, and eventually the five elves decided to return home. On the way back, they agreed that dinner would simply have to be rice porridge tonight.
Bo and the others went to the cooking elves to share the disappointing news and asked for rice porridge for supper. The kitchen elves immediately got to work, and before the hunters even realized it, the porridge was ready – not just for them, but for the entire village.
The next morning, Bo woke with a strange feeling in his stomach – something unusual was going to happen today. He joined the same four hunting elves and headed back into the forest. After a few hours, their luck finally changed. The smallest of the group managed to catch a deer. Just as the five hunters gathered around it, a giant hawk swooped down from the sky, grabbed the tiny elf, and carried him off.
Bo and the others panicked and ran after the hawk, completely forgetting about the deer they had just caught. Because Bo was so much bigger, he was also much faster. He chased the hawk through the snow, leaped upward, pulled it down to the ground, and pinned it until the other elves arrived. Together, they freed their small friend from the hawk’s talons.
The tiny elf immediately shouted, “WHAT ABOUT THE DEER I JUST CAUGHT?”
Bo answered without hesitation: “The deer doesn’t matter as long as you’re safe.”
And so Bo and the hunters returned home and told the kitchen elves what had happened.
From that day on, the elves have eaten rice porridge every single day, and the story of Bo and the giant hawk is still told throughout the village.
