Lily’s Candy Shop

Once upon a time, there was a girl named Lily. She might have been the luckiest girl in the whole world, because she owned her very own candy shop. Lily was only 18 years old, but she had inherited the candy shop from her grandfather and grandmother. At first, she didn’t know much about running a shop, but she had received plenty of help from her mom and dad, and now she felt ready.

The first thing she had to decide was what kind of candy she wanted to sell. She thought carefully and filled the shelves with all the most wonderful sweets anyone could imagine.

There were large jars filled with colorful gummy bears, sour cola bottles, and small fruit slices sprinkled with sugar. There was licorice in every shape – soft licorice sticks, salty licorice balls, licorice pipes, and licorice covered in chocolate.

On the top shelves stood jars of caramels – creamy caramel candies, salted caramel cubes, and soft fudge pieces in vanilla and chocolate.

There were long rows of chocolate bars with crunchy nuts, smooth nougat, and crispy biscuits. There were marshmallows in pink and white, strawberry marshmallows, banana marshmallows, and large marshmallow hearts.

In a special display case were handmade lollipops shaped like flowers, stars, and hearts in every color of the rainbow. There was bubble gum that could be blown into giant bubbles, hard candies with flavors of strawberry, lemon, and cola – and of course plenty of popcorn covered in both caramel and chocolate.

The shop smelled of sugar, caramel, and chocolate, and everything looked so beautiful that it almost felt like stepping into a dream.

When the shelves were finally full, the shop needed a name. Lily thought for a few seconds and smiled. Of course it should be called Lily’s Candy Shop. She had a large, beautiful sign made that said “Lily’s Candy Shop” in golden letters.

Soon, journalists from the local newspaper came to write about the new shop in town. A TV crew also stopped by to make a feature about the 18-year-old candy shop owner. With all that attention, Lily got an amazing start.

When she opened the doors for the first time, a long line of people was already waiting outside. Children pressed their noses against the window, and adults smiled with excitement. All day long she sold candy, filled bags, and thanked customers for visiting.

When the first day finally ended, Lily was completely exhausted. Her feet were tired, and her voice was hoarse from saying hello and goodbye so many times. But she was also incredibly happy and proud.

As the days passed, it became harder and harder for Lily not to taste all the delicious candy herself. One morning, before opening the shop, she thought she would just taste a gummy bear. Then a piece of licorice. Then a caramel. And maybe just a small bite of chocolate.

But it didn’t stop there. She tasted a little bit of everything – and suddenly she had eaten so much candy that her stomach began to hurt terribly. And she hadn’t even opened the shop yet.

Lily sighed and promised herself that she would never eat that much candy again. It was not pleasant to spend an entire day with a stomachache.

That evening, when she came home and thought about everything, she had an idea. She wanted an alternative to all the sweets. The next day, she filled a new section of the shop with fruits and vegetables.

But Lily did something very special.

Using natural fruit colors, she made the most beautiful apples in purple, pink, blue, yellow, and even rainbow colors. The carrots became colorful too, and the cucumbers got stripes in bright shades. Even the bananas were no longer just yellow – they were decorated with lovely patterns in every color of the rainbow.

It turned out to be a huge success. Many children who came in to buy candy also went home with a colorful apple or a bright carrot, simply because they were so beautiful.

Lily discovered that even a stomachache could lead to something good. And she promised herself that the next time something unfortunate happened, she would try to turn it into something positive.

And so Lily’s Candy Shop became famous not only for its delicious candy – but also for its magical, colorful fruits.
