Sam the Mouse

Sam the Mouse

In a land far, far away, there was a library, but it wasn’t a normal library; it was a floating library. Many people came to the library by boats and cars. Hundreds of people filled the library daily. At night, a little mouse named Sam came out and took papers from the librarian’s desk and carried them into his hole. He had been writing books all his life, but he had never shown them to anyone. Sam’s entire room was filled with books. The only furniture he had was a desk, a chair, a fridge, and a bed.

One day, Sam thought he should show his books to everyone. He made up his mind, and the next day, he placed the books on the shelves where they belonged. A few minutes later, a child found one of Sam’s small books. She brought the book to the librarian’s desk and asked her: “Who wrote the book?” The librarian said, “I don’t know who wrote this book, but I can put up a poster and ask who the author is.”

The next day, the librarian put up a poster that said: “Who wrote the small books? If you are the author, please come to the librarian’s desk.” That evening, when Sam came out to place his books on the shelves, he saw the poster and read it. He finally decided to come out the next day. The following day, he went to the librarian’s desk and told the librarian that he was the author of the small books. The librarian was very proud of Sam. She told him she would give him a big surprise the next day. The next day, Sam returned to the librarian’s desk and asked the librarian: “Were you going to tell me the big surprise?” She told Sam that she was going to open a new school called “Little Writers.” Sam would help children write their own books! The day after, the school opened, and many children came. There were twenty children, and Sam helped them all!
