When Benny the mouse saw a blue bicycle in the toy store window, Mr. Mouse said bicycles were silly. Benny thought his dad was way too boring.
“Forget the bike and help me with the shopping,” said Mr. Mouse.
“Shopping is boring,” Benny grumbled.
“Maybe it’s more fun than you think,” said Mr. Mouse.
At the greengrocer’s, Mr. Mouse needed to buy some carrots and apples. Out of the corner of his eye, Benny saw the shopkeeper juggling apples and oranges. He told his dad, who frowned.
“Shopkeepers are much too sensible to juggle,” he said.
At the dairy, Benny saw Mrs. Cow twirling around in a pink ballet skirt while Mr. Mouse looked at milk and cheese. Benny told his dad, who just shook his head.
“Cows are far too busy to dance,” he said.
The bakery was the last stop. While Mr. Mouse was busy picking out bread and rolls, Benny saw the baker balancing fifteen donuts on the tip of his nose. Benny told his dad, who sighed.
“You’re imagining things,” he said. “Bakers don’t play with food.”
As they passed the toy store again on their way home, the bike shop owner opened the door and came out with the blue bicycle.
“Oh no,” Benny gasped. “It’s been sold!”
“Yes, it has,” said the bike shop owner. “It’s YOURS now!”
Benny stared in surprise at his father.
“Did YOU buy it?” he asked.
“Me? Buy that? I’m far too boring for things like that!” Mr. Mouse said, winking at the bike shop owner.
“I’ll help you with the shopping again tomorrow,” Benny promised as he jumped on the bike. “You were right – shopping is way more fun than I thought!”
