The Little Dragon

The Little Dragon

The little dragon was sitting and reading a book about a wicked man who wore a kind of metal suit and killed dragons with his sword. The little dragon felt both scared and nervous. Just then, it heard some voices.

“Oh no!” thought the dragon. “Dragon hunters!” And it quickly hid under its blanket.

Outside, Princess Pippa, Prince Pip, and little Baron Boris were climbing the hill. Boris was making a lot of noise and waving a toy sword.

“Let’s go dragon hunting,” said Boris. “What do you say?”

“No thanks,” replied Pippa and Pip.

“Scaredy-cats, scaredy-cats!” teased Boris.

“We’re not scaredy-cats!” snapped Pip.

“Look!” exclaimed Boris. “Dragon tracks!”

They followed the footprints all the way to the little dragon’s door.

“Uh… You go first,” said Boris. “I’ll stay outside and keep watch in case the dragon tries to escape.”

Pip and Pippa pushed the door open. It was very dark and spooky inside the cave. They saw a light and a large shadow that looked like… a dragon! They were terrified!

“Who’s there?” asked Pip bravely.

“It’s me!” said the little dragon.

“Are you a dragon?” asked Pippa.

“Yes,” replied the little dragon.

“You’re very small,” said Pippa.

“I’m big on the inside,” said the little dragon, standing on tiptoes. Then it started to cry.

“Are you here to kill me, like in my book?” it sniffled.

“Of course not,” said Pippa, giving the dragon a big hug.

“Let’s be friends,” said Prince Pip. And so it was decided.

“Would you like a snack?” asked the little dragon.

“Yes, please!” said Pippa and Pip. The little dragon brought out a tray of cookies.

“Does your loud friend with the pointy stick want a cookie too?” asked the little dragon.

“Oh, you mean Boris,” said Pippa. “I think he would. He’s always hungry!”

“Would you like a cookie, Boris?” asked the little dragon.

“It’s a dragon!” screamed little Baron Boris and ran away.

“Who’s the scaredy-cat now?” laughed Pip.

Soon after, it was time for Pip and Pippa to go home.

“Can we be friends again tomorrow?” asked the little dragon.

“We’ll be friends forever,” replied Pip and Pippa.
