Once upon a time, in a cozy little corner of the forest, lived a spider named Simon. Simon was no ordinary spider; he was actually the not-so-scary spider. While all the other spiders in the forest tried to be as spooky as possible, Simon was different. He didn’t want to scare anyone—he just wanted friends.
Halloween was approaching, and the forest buzzed with excitement. All the animals were busy getting ready for the spookiest night of the year. The owls practiced their eerie hoots, the bats sharpened their high-pitched screeches, and the spiders spun the scariest webs they could.
But not Simon. He watched his fellow spiders weave their webs with a heavy heart. He didn’t want to scare anyone away. He wanted to be helpful and kind.
One gloomy evening, just a few days before Halloween, Simon heard a faint, worried cry. It came from above, where the trees met the dark sky. Simon scurried up to see what was going on.
There, clinging to a branch, was a small, lost bat named Luna. She was crying, and her little wings trembled with fear.
“Hey there,” called Simon, trying to sound as friendly as possible. “Are you okay?”
Luna looked down with teary eyes. “I’m lost,” she sniffled. “I can’t find my way home.”
Simon felt a wave of sympathy for the scared little bat. “Don’t worry,” he said. “I can help you find your way home.”
With that, Simon began spinning a silky thread from his spinnerets. He wove a strong and sturdy line stretching all the way from the branch to Luna.
“Grab on,” Simon said to Luna. “I’ll take you home.”
Luna hesitated for a moment, then wrapped her tiny claws around the thread. Simon carefully lowered Luna down to the forest floor.
As they landed, Luna looked around and recognized her surroundings. She gave Simon a grateful smile. “Thank you so much,” she chirped. “I thought I was lost forever.”
Simon beamed with joy. He had made a new friend, and he hadn’t scared anyone at all. Luna explained that she had been trying to find her way to the annual Halloween party for bats but had gotten lost along the way.
“That sounds like fun,” said Simon, his eyes sparkling with excitement.
Luna invited Simon to come along to the party, and Simon eagerly accepted. They flew together through the moonlit night, following the sound of laughter and music.
The party was amazing! Bats of all shapes and sizes danced and laughed beneath the shining moon. Simon felt like he had found his place in the world, surrounded by kind creatures who didn’t want to be scary either.
As the night went on, Simon and Luna became best friends. They danced, they sang, and they laughed until the sun began to rise.
When it was time to go, Luna said, “Simon, you’re the best friend a bat could ever ask for. From now on, you’re an honorary member of the bat family.”
Touched by Luna’s words, Simon felt his heart swell with happiness. He had found where he truly belonged—and he had made a friend for life.
From that day on, Simon and Luna were inseparable. They went on many adventures together, spreading friendship and kindness throughout the forest. Simon had learned that it was okay to be different, and that being kind was the best way to make friends.
And so, Simon the not-so-scary spider lived happily ever after, surrounded by friends who loved him just the way he was.
