Once upon a time, there was a shy octopus who lived in a quiet corner of the coral reef. It rarely came out, and if it ever ran into someone, it would squeeze into the nearest crevice and hide—because octopuses can fit into places no one else can.
One day, the octopus was hiding when it heard a cry.
“Help!” a tiny voice called out. “It’s me, the crab! I’ve fallen into a crack, and I can’t get out.”
The octopus peeked out from its hiding place and saw how the other sea creatures were trying to save their friend.
First, the seahorse tried to squeeze into the crack… then the clownfish… and finally, the moray eel. But they were all too big. The octopus knew it had to help.
“Let me try,” the shy octopus said.
To everyone’s surprise, it squeezed its soft, rubbery body into the crack and pulled the crab free with one of its long tentacles. Cheers erupted all around.
“My hero!” the little crab sighed, smiling at the octopus.
The octopus blushed but felt very happy. Maybe making friends wasn’t so hard after all.
