Once upon a time, there were two children who were very, very good friends.
They played together almost every day. They knew each other’s favorite games, favorite colors, and the exact right way to laugh when something was extra funny. When one of them got an idea, the other already knew what was about to happen.
But one day, something strange happened.
It was not a big thing. Not something you could point at and say, “That was right there.”
It was more that the words became a little shorter. The smiles a little fewer. And suddenly, they did not really feel like playing together anymore.
They fell out.
Not with shouting or arguing, but in the quiet way. The kind where you keep a little distance. Where you play with other people. Where you think, “Maybe it is fine without.”
The days passed, and even though they both missed something, neither of them said it out loud.
Until one day.
An invitation arrived. A birthday party.
They both thought about it. Should they go? Would it be awkward? Would it feel strange?
But they went.
At the birthday party, they first stood at opposite ends of the room. They ate cake. They looked around a little. And then something very quiet and very important happened.
One of them laughed.
And the other recognized the laugh.
Right then, they remembered why they had been friends. Not because everything was always perfect. But because it felt good to be together.
They did not say sorry with big words. They said it with a smile. With a game. With sitting next to each other again.
And slowly, the pause became just a pause.
And the friendship came back.
Because sometimes a friendship needs a small break to understand how much it means.
And that evening, when they walked home, they were tired in the good way.
The way where the heart feels light.
And then it was time to sleep.
Good night.
