It had really been a bad day for Rollie Rabbit. At work, he made many mistakes, and his boss kept correcting him. Rollie felt sad, and when he finally got off work, he dragged his feet along the sidewalk toward the bus stop. The day had been so long, it almost felt like he would never get there.

“What a dumb day today,” thought Rollie Rabbit. And as if that wasn’t enough, the weather was miserable too. A cold wind began to blow, and the sky grew darker. Shortly after, it started to rain.

Rollie sighed. He hadn’t brought a raincoat or an umbrella. The rain grew heavier, and it looked like a real downpour was coming.

Rollie started to walk faster. Fortunately, he reached the bus stop just before the rain began to pour. Puddles formed in the muddy road in front of the small forest bus stop, which was completely empty.

Rollie stood in the shelter and tried to dry his coat, which had gotten wet from the raindrops hitting him.
“Brrr… I’m freezing,” he said, shivering as the cold wind blew. He really hoped the bus would come soon.

Suddenly, a fox came running up to the bus stop. He wanted to get out of the rain too. The fox was soaking wet, and when he shook himself to get the water out of his fur, a big splash landed right on Rollie.

“Oh, I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to splash you,” said the fox, looking embarrassed.

Rollie was a bit annoyed. It had already been a really bad day, and now he was even wetter. But he took a deep breath and replied kindly:
“It’s okay…”

The fox began to sniffle.
“He’s probably already catching a cold,” thought Rollie.

But then Rollie actually thought it was kind of nice not to be standing there all alone anymore. It was comforting to have some company.

Suddenly, there was a loud sound from Rollie’s stomach – a big rumble. He had barely eaten all day because he had been so busy at work. Rollie was embarrassed because the sound was quite loud.

The fox looked at Rollie and smiled.

“If you’d like, I have a warm chocolate cake that I bought on my way home,” he said, pulling the cake out of his bag.

It smelled amazing. The scent spread through the whole bus stop. Rollie wanted to say no, but he couldn’t resist the delicious aroma.

“Oooh, I’d love that,” he said and reached out to take a piece of chocolate cake.

He ate the wonderful piece in one big bite. It warmed his belly, and he immediately felt his mood lift a little.

Rollie and the fox began to talk and get to know each other. Time passed, and finally, the bus arrived.

They both got on. When the fox had to get off, he said:
“Shall we meet again sometime for a cup of coffee?”

“I’d really like that,” said Rollie happily.

Rollie stayed on the bus and looked out the window at the rain. He thought about the whole long day.

“Maybe the day wasn’t so bad after all,” he thought.

Because even though he had had a bad day at work and got soaked in the rain, he had made a new friend – and gotten a piece of warm chocolate cake when he needed it the most.

Rollie learned something important that day:
Even when bad things happen, good things can too. It’s all about what you choose to focus on.

And from that day on, Rollie decided he would try to focus more on the good – and not let the bad take up too much space.
