One beautiful, sunny day, a little grasshopper sat in a lush green meadow. He felt very safe in his surroundings because he had the same bright green color as the grass around him. Lazily, he watched bumblebees and colorful butterflies dancing from one fragrant flower to another nearby.
Suddenly, the grasshopper noticed a small field mouse. It was very restless and nervous. It kept looking around and searching for a new hiding place. The grasshopper realized that it was because the mouse was afraid of the fox that was wandering around the meadow.
“No one will notice me here!” shouted the grasshopper. “When I sit on a blade of grass, no one can see me because I blend in perfectly!”
“I’m invisible to everyone!” he continued, shouting toward the frightened mouse. “I feel so… free! I can sit here, dance, sing, even jump! No one will ever find me! I have the best camouflage in the world!”
Full of arrogance, the grasshopper didn’t even notice that someone else, just as green as the grass, was slowly approaching.
Before the grasshopper could even sense the danger nearby, the little field mouse let out a loud whistle.
“Grasshopper, watch out!” it said. “There’s a frog in the grass that wants to eat you!”
The grasshopper spotted the frog and just managed to leap to safety. He quickly hopped over to the little field mouse.
“Thank you, little mouse!” said the grasshopper. “Your carefulness saved me! From now on, I will stop bragging so much and pay more attention.”
The grasshopper and the little field mouse hid together under a stone until the frog and the fox disappeared.
